The fringe has kicked-off and what a start it has been! Our show Chirstmas Eve at the Julibee Motel is my first experience with a fringe festival ever, and let me tell you, it’s amazing! I seriously hope someone will have a part for me in next year’s fringe because this is so much fun!
Our opening night show went very well, we had a house of maybe 20 or 25 which isn’t too bad, they were responsive and they gave us a whole lot to work with. Tom Mackan was in the audience along with Patricia Howllet and they seemed to greatly enjoy the show a great deal, in fact Tom then reviewed the show for Artword.com; his review can be found here. Our show on opening night concluded at 5:30 and at 6:00 we went over to the Fringe Headquarters to deliver a small excerpt from our scrip as promo. The pictures here were taken inside that small bar. They’re serving Nicklebrook organic beer, and let me tell you, that may have been the best $4 I’ve ever spent! (that reminds me… i owe you $4 Riane!) SO, if you out watching a fringe show in Hamilton, stop by the bar, it’s across from Theatre Aquarius, you can’t miss it and it’s a great time!
SO after that Monica Cairney, my co-star in “Julibee”, Riane and Micheal, all went to see the show “The Whores” which they say was absolutely outstanding, I’ll be seeing that very soon. After that we all went down to see Purple. I won’t link you to that review. The show itself, as the directors pointed out, wasn’t completely finished and we were seeing their dress run. Unfortunately they had some pivitol scenes and props missing that left me a little confused as to what i had just seen. But i was thoroughly impressed with the cast, there was some very impressive performances given on their opening night. Farhang Gahajr & Kathleen Quinn played extremely convincing lovers and Quinn’s transformation was exceedingly abrupt (due to the script, not her own choice) but she made it completely believable. Other performances that stood out, Briana (Kristi) Boulton, Nicole Harper, Samantha Curtin and Liam Caldwell. Liam had an amazing little cameo piece as the Scottish father that entertained me beyond words!
Well that was day one, i’ll be back here soon with updates from day two, but to close i must say: PLEASE come on down to the Hamilton fringe this year! it’s absolutely amazing, so much fun and the talent that is here right now is beyond comparison!
Thanks for the kind words Duncan, looking forward to seeing you on stage.
Also, it was so humid that day… I melded to my costume/arm got stuck in sleeve/I suffered an eternal struggle… which I why I ran out well after lights up. ha! Thanks again chief-o
haha, thanks Liam, i hope you enjoy our show!
